Trip to Kahneeta

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Who would have thought that a desolate landscape of lava rock and tumbleweed would be the oasis? On President’s day weekend we all headed to kahneeta hot springs resort where the pool is heated to a toasty 92 degrees, and the cold rushing winds and rain of the gorge quickly became a distant memory. I never expected such a dusty expanse of nothingness to be at that moment the most refreshing place on the planet. Anyways, here are some shots (courtesy of Larry “Grandpa” Sharp), of babies on their first experience in a pool:

Big Update

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Seems like the last couple of months have been terrible for losses of and for my friends and family. These two, brimming with fresh new life have helped me keep a positive perspective as the cycle continues. Sorry for the delay in updates. As you’ll see, the cameras have been rolling all along, and I have a lot more to sift through, like weeks of built up laundry. Mel listed some skills at the bottom of this imagery, although the girls seem days away from crawling.

My parents just left for home, on a train, after a wonderful visit here. I think broke something with all the eating. I’m so grateful that they are up here occasionally to take part in the lives of their grandchildren. Although it may seem difficult to an outsider (it can be a lot of work. no lies) to take care of these two, I’m as proud as a father could be.

The setting for most of this imagery hasn’t changed, but we do get out a lot with the kids. The cameras just happen to be more handy (and we don’t forget them) at home. For the most part, the girls were sweet in many restaurant settings, and we are discovering that Samia’s recent increased fussiness is due in a large part to wanting more solids than is typically recommended.

A large part of my day is in warming up water to make formula and solids. They get up, I mix formula, feeding each individually (sometimes I’ll try both at once, but they are getting quite “kicky”). I may spend some time reading to them, playing on the floor, or just staring and smiling (back). After a brief bit of this quality time, I make them solid foods (for a total of 6 feedings a day per baby 3 bottles. three of homemade solids.) If I skip the QT, I can take them for a walk or something outdoors before nap time approaches. Nap times allow me to sort of pick up the place and get ready for the next slew of food prep, diaper changes, and visiting with the kids.

<edit>  We’re teaching the kids sign language so we can avoid a large part of the frustration caused mouths that won’t cooperate-words such as milk, more, eat, up, down, hurt and others, but I’d like them to have these at least so I can figure out what they want ASAP.

If I have time after that during naps, I may get some design work and working out done. Pretty busy over here.
